LAVA Ether-Serial Device Servers Hit a Home Run at Banner Island Ballpark (CA)

June 13, 2005 ? When Kevin Young of Central Valley Register Supply needed to create inter-register communications to link 28 cash registers scattered across various concession stands at a new baseball stadium, he knew that you can only stretch an RS-232 connection so far without dropping signals. Not wanting to disappoint 5,000 fans expected to attend opening night at Banner Island Ballpark to see the California-based Stockton Ports minor league baseball team claim victory, Kevin had to find a way to overcome the limitations of RS-232 cabling. He found the hardware solution he was looking for with LAVA Ether-Serial Links.

Banner Island Park wanted to have the ability to remotely poll their cash registers at each concession stand strategically located in the stadium. Eight LAVA “boxes” were used to link a total of 28 cash registers from souvenir stands, beverage, and general concessions, into a master hub. Once the boxes were configured, they fired up LAVA Manager, and were on the network within minutes.

“Samsung and LAVA serial boxes were the perfect fit for the ballpark. Banner Island Park wanted to poll all their cash registers to conduct financial, group, PLU, and employee reports. We were all surprised at how tremendously fast we could run reports. With LAVA Ethernet to serial device servers, we had a direct connection in three minutes,” says Kevin. “As a POS Systems Reseller, this opens up a whole new avenue for my industry. LAVA technical support alone is above and beyond anything I’ve ever experienced.” CVRS operates out of Modesto, CA as an authorized Dinerware, Point of Success, Comcash, Samsung, and Epson reseller.
