LAVA has launched our new nSynC K10 Batteryless adapters that can upgrade the Lenovo Tab K10 Batteryless (TB-X6C6NB) tablet to suit your tablet installation needs.
nSynC K10 Batteryless Adapters vs. K10 Batteryless Enclosures
While these adapters offer similar functionality to our recently launched K10 Batteryless Enclosure which turns the Lenovo tablet into the equivalent of a turnkey system, an nSynC K10 Batteryless adapter is separate from the tablet, connecting to it via a USB-C cable. As such, the adapter provides more versatility than the Enclosure as you can put it pretty much anywhere. You can build the tablet into a separate third-party enclosure, while hiding the adapter from site. You could even incorporate the adapter’s board into your own enclosure, if needed.
The adapters also use LAVA’s Docking Detect technology to secure a reliable USB connection to the tablet. Docking Detect ensures the handshake protocols between the adapter and Lenovo tablet are executed correctly each time they are connected.
The nSynC K10 Batteryless adapters can be used in a variety of industries. Understanding how it works, let’s look into some example use cases.
Smart lockers
Currently, one LAVA customer plans to incorporate our nSynC K10 Batteryless adapters into their smart lockers. Used for contactless food service delivery, the customer installed the lockers in the lobbies of office buildings and residences. The food delivery person scans a barcode on the locker with their phone to open the locker to place the food inside. The person who ordered the food will then get notified by text. They can go to the smart locker, scan the barcode on the locker and collect their delivery. The Lenovo Tab K10 Batteryless will serve as the smart locker’s user interface. Meanwhile, our adapter will provide a power and data connection to the tablet.
More traditional smart lockers for storing personal belongings could also take advantage of our adapters. As the tablet doesn’t have a battery, it can have a 24/7 power connection without overcharging. You can also build it directly into the metal lockers or hidden inside a compartment, for further protection. In fact, one of our long-time customers is currently considering exploring the possibility of using the Lenovo Tab K10 Batteryless tablet in combination with our adapter for this very reason.
Digital signage
You can also use the tablet and one of our nSynC K10 Batteryless adapters for digital signage applications. The Lenovo K10 Batteryless tablet’s 10.3-inch screen can display clear images and legible text. The tablet could display advertisements or electronic billboards in public spaces, digital door signage for hospitals or meeting rooms and more.
Our adapters allow you to install the tablet just about anywhere. You can also hide it out of the way without compromising the tablet’s function. With an Ethernet connection, the tablet’s content can update in real time with a reliable wired connection to the network.
Smart stadium seating
Because the Lenovo Tab K10 Batteryless tablet has no battery, it can’t swell from overheating or overcharging. This makes it a great choice for installations in locations that experience high temperatures. In a stadium, for example, the tablet might be sitting in direct sunlight but it suffer damage as tablets with batteries might.
At LAVA, we’ve built power and data solutions for a variety of sports stadiums across the world. Similar to those applications, you could build the tablets directly into luxury seats as a second display for the game. Powered by our nSynC K10 Batteryless adapters, the tablets could also access the internet to stream game highlights, IPTV and other online content. During the game, it can also be used to order food from the stadium’s restaurant, helping skip lines and miss parts of the game. The adapter (or OEM board) could be easily hidden inside the seating for a seamless look.
Configuration options
The adapters provide the tablet with simultaneous power and data and come in a variety of port configurations. These include Power over Ethernet (PoE), Ethernet and multiple USB-A ports to add USB accessories.
Our PoE adapters combine power and a wired network connection over the same Ethernet cable. This eliminates the need for a separate power cable and allows for powering at a distance. With PoE, the adapter can be placed up to 328ft (100m) away from the PoE-capable network switch or injector. This gives you more options on where to place the tablet.
Our non-PoE adapters feature a voltage converter that takes a DC power input between 15 and 36 volts. This is essential as the tablet requires a 12-volt power contract, which is higher than most tablets that usually draw 5 volts DC. The voltage converter steps down the voltage to 12 volts for the tablet. While these adapters can plug directly into an AC power source, such as an electrical outlet, you can also use them with 24-volt electrical systems. This makes them ideal for some vehicular applications, such as a digital dashboard display, an entertainment system for a bus or a connected forklift application.
